Irons

All Ben Hogan irons are decked out with a modern V-Sole design. Ben Hogan himself pretty much invented the idea and the brand have continuously improved and refined the tech over the years, so much so other premium brands now talk about the concept on their player irons, too. The idea combines a high bounce leading edge with a lower bounce trailing edge. In true Hogan style it allows for easy manipulation of the clubhead without changing the loft, no matter whether you’re playing a downhill, uphill or even side hill lie.

It’s worth knowing Ben Hogan say they never strive to develop the best “player’s iron” or “player’s distance iron”. Instead, they design and manufacture the highest-quality, best-performing products for better players. The brand firmly believe in consistent four-degree loft gaps between each iron in a set, as it gives correct distance gapping. And because they refuse to play the loft jacking game you won’t find a strong-lofted iron in their line-up. It means approaches bounce and stop on a green which is a lovely idea as generally better players are less concerned about maximising distance anyway.

Edge EX Irons

From RRP £560
Available irons: 4-PW in RH and LH

As with all Ben Hogan irons and wedges, the Edge EX is forged to provide outstanding feedback so you can actually feel what you are doing right… and wrong.

The Edge EX is packed with game-improvement technology and designed for mid-handicap players who are serious about improving their games and playing to their maximum potential.

The revolutionary design of the Edge EX irons is startling at first sight. Though it retains the traditional look and elegance that Ben Hogan irons are famous for, we’ve removed much of the unnecessary weight behind the hitting area and repositioned it to the edges of the clubhead. This creates the perception of a face that is ‘floating’ between the toe, heel and sole of the clubhead.

The Open Cavity design allowed our engineers to not only reposition weight to the perimeters of the club to increase stability and forgiveness, but also enabled them to enlarge the size of the clubhead significantly. As a result, the size of the face and ‘Effective Hitting Area’ has been increased. In effect, golfers see very little difference in distance and accuracy between shots hit directly in the center of the sweet spot and those much closer to the toe or heel.

The design also creates a solid, satisfying feel on shots hit across the entire width (and height) of the forged clubface. You’ll experience that special, blissful feeling that Mr. Hogan talked about on more shots than ever before.

The New Icon Blade irons

RRP £765 (chrome) / £795 (Black)
Available in RH only

The new Icon irons are textbook Hogan, carrying on the founder’s vision and heritage for beautiful high-quality, forged but contemporary muscle backs.

Designed with a graceful blend of traditional styling and modern performance, the Icon blades are well-suited to accomplished players, especially those wanting to shape approaches into tight flag positions and/or feed shots onto levels or ledges on a green’s surface. Icon have a thin topline, minimal offset and a clean, pure and elegant shape. It's the kind of club the brand is known for and they epitomise Hogan’s “forged feel feedback” thinking.

Tech highlights

  • Progressive Centre of Mass Weighting ensures ball flight and trajectory are optimized for each club in the set. It means long irons launch a little higher and shorter irons have a more controlled piercing flight for distance control consistency.

  • 4° gapping throughout the set gives consistent yardage gaps.

Player’s Black Combo Set

RRP £740
4-7 PTx Pro Irons, 8-P ICON Irons

Unlike most ‘combo sets’ on the market which make design sacrifices from the start -- where the long irons do not have enough game-enhancement technology while the shorter, scoring irons have too much -- the Ben Hogan Player’s Combo Sets uses the best elements of two distinctly different iron models.  The Player’s Black Combo Set combines ICON blade short irons and the Award-Winning PTx PRO mid- and longer irons.

ICON Irons

The ICON irons are textbook Hogan, carrying on that heritage of high-quality, beautifully forged, contemporary muscle backs and placing it in a re-imagined package.

PTx Pro Irons

The PTx PRO Irons offer forged feel and feedback with today’s most advanced materials and manufacturing processes – while maintaining the undeniably clean, elegant head design and geometry that’s pure Ben Hogan.

PTx Pro

RRP £750 (Chrome) / £780 (Black)
Available irons: 4-PW in RH and LH

PTx Pro Irons are the choice for discerning players who want to make the most of today’s advanced club manufacturing capabilities, and by that we mean hollow body technology. Hogan say the PTx are a good match for accomplished golfers who want to maintain their handicap, as well as serious, committed players wanting to dial in their game. The PTx Pro combines the look of a traditional iron model with the feel and feedback of a superb forged iron along with the performance only a three-piece, multi-material modern iron can deliver.

 Tech highlights

  • A co-forged construction means the long irons have 1025 carbon steel bodies with flexible MS300 faces and tungsten toe weighting to maximise launch, spin and forgiveness in a players’ head shape. The short irons are designed to give a lower more piercing ball flight and increased control.

  • Linear centre of mass weighting tech gives a consistent centre of gravity height, which Hogan says helps eliminate ballooned short iron shots as well as thinned long irons.

Hogan also offer a PTx Pro and Icon iron combo set, which means golfers can pick and mix short irons from the Icon blade set and marry them with the hollow body PTx Pro longer irons, ensuring more forgiveness with the more difficult to hit longer irons. Take up this option and Hogan also give you the choice of going with a PTx Pro 4 iron, a UiHi utility club or hybrid to ensure you get your perfect set-up.
