UiHi Utility Iron

RRP £110
RH only. Available lofts: 18°, 22°, 26°

Even the most accomplished players can find launching long irons difficult. If you need any proof just look in the bag of some of the best players in the world, and you’ll see how more forgiving utility style long irons are growing in popularity at the very top of the game.

Typically, long irons have been extensions of mid- and short-iron designs, and are specifically engineered to deliver the higher trajectories that quality long iron play demands. This is why many #1, #2 and #3 irons of yesteryear which launch lower are quietly collecting dust in the back of many sheds and garages.

Hogan’s brand new UiHi utility irons follow the same hollow body principals as the long irons of the PTx Pro iron. They offer a slightly larger face profile, wider sole, and more forgiving weight distribution, all of which is possible due to a multi-material, multi-piece, forged construction that allows Hogan’s engineers to re-position mass to provide additional stability and straighter shots.

Tech highlights

  • A hollow construction means the UiHi utility irons deliver fast ball speeds, whilst offering improved forgiveness. They also maintain a solid forged feel and sound.

  • Each head has been designed to appear to have more loft which makes them look less intimidating at address.

  • Hogan say the V-Sole design gives a friendly sole shape that lets golfers make cleaner contact, improving consistency.

VTKR+ Hybrid

RRP £140
Available lofts: 18°, 22°, 26° RH only

Hogan say many golfers think TaylorMade invented the hybrid category when they launched the Rescue in 2002, but in fact Mr Hogan himself was developing hybrids more than 65 years ago. The VTKR+ builds on that tradition as it’s been carefully designed from the ground up so they aren't just “extended” long irons, or “compact” fairway woods. Instead Hogan say each is independently engineered for a given purpose to fill yardage gaps between irons and woods.

VKTR+ hybrids vary in head size (from 110cc to 96cc) depending on loft. The stronger lofts have larger heads creating more confidence at address, while the weaker lofted heads are significantly smaller.

Tech highlights

  • The VKTR+ is created from two different steels. To maximise ball speeds the face is constructed from thinned-down, springy 455 maraging steel, whereas the body is strong 17-4 stainless steel.

  • Sound tuning vents around the skirt create a solid feel and give the muted acoustics good players often prefer.

  • A high-toe helps encourages golfers to hit down on their hybrids and engage the turf rather than sweeping shots off the turf like a fairway wood.
